Signs the starter is going
A weak battery, corroded terminals or a bad ground can act just like a failing starter. We check before we rebuild.
One click, then nothing
The solenoid clicks but the motor never turns the engine over.
Slow, labored cranking
The engine turns, but slower than it should, even with a good battery.
Grinding when you start it
The starter gear isn't meeting the flywheel cleanly.
Works some days, not others
Intermittent starts are often worn contacts or brushes inside the starter.
Starters we see
- Car and light truck starters, foreign and domestic
- Tractor starters. One customer had theirs fixed while they waited (Google review)
- Custom rebuilds for starters that are hard to find
- Starters pulled at home and brought in on their own
Every thing I bring to him he fixes it right. I been using this shop for a few years now.
Common questions
More answers on the home page, or call the shop during hours.
Should I rebuild or replace my starter?
If the starter is original, hard to find or expensive new, a rebuild keeps the unit you have and usually makes sense. Bring it in and we'll test it and tell you what it needs.
Do you work on tractor starters?
Yes. Tractor starters come through the shop along with car and truck starters.
Can you tell if it's the starter or the battery?
Yes. Testing the starter on the bench shows whether it is the problem, so you don't replace a part that was working.
